![]() ![]() When you play scales do you ever subdivide different rhythms in LH and RH? If yes, what are some good ones to start with?Ģ. So I'm always doing things to change it up.ġ. I can now play my scales at a tempo I couldn't possibly imagine a few years ago.įew questions about my favorites thing to do, which is play scales. The improvement is very slow and gradual but it really works. Despite never practicing speed itself my max scale speed has been steadily improving every year (about 10 BPM per year at four notes per click, to give you a rough idea). Over several years of doing scales I almost never practiced them to gain speed, always praciting to have better control, listening for clarity, watching my movements at a slow tempo to see if they are efficient, etc. And trust me that it does develop naturally over time. There are some techniques to increase your speed when practicing passages (playing short bursts with pauses) but IMO they only work if you are not pushing beyond your absolute max scale speed, which develops slowly over time. ![]() Pushing speed will lead to tensing up, which goes against speed. Any tips for building speed? I do a lot of hand independence dynamics (LH Forte and RH Piano, LH staccato and RH legato, etc)I said it before and I'll say it again - speed comes from control and develops naturally. ![]()
